Vasily Surikov composed this view of his native Siberia, depicting the village of Torgoshyno. The artist grew up in Krasnoyarsk and returned to paint the vast Russian landscape throughout his career. Snow-covered terrain stretches under a winter sky, capturing the region's harsh beauty.
Surikov is best known for large historical paintings, but his landscapes reveal deep attachment to Siberian terrain. The muted palette and expansive composition convey the isolation of the region. This work hangs at the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.
