The Lehmbruck Museum in Duisburg, Germany, opened in 1964 in a building designed by Manfred Lehmbruck, son of the sculptor Wilhelm Lehmbruck. The museum was created to honor the Duisburg-born Expressionist sculptor, who died in 1919 at age 38.
The collection extends well beyond Lehmbruck's own work to cover international sculpture from the 20th and 21st centuries. Henry Moore, Alberto Giacometti, and Joseph Beuys are represented. The glass-walled building and surrounding sculpture park integrate indoor and outdoor display, making it one of Germany's premier sculpture museums.
