Lorenzo Bartolini (1777-1850) was an Italian sculptor who became the leading Romantic-Realist sculptor in Florence during the first half of the 19th century. Born in Tuscany, he studied in Paris under David before returning to Florence, where he advocated for naturalism over idealized classicism.
His Trust in God and portraits of prominent Europeans demonstrate a warm naturalism that challenged the dominant Neoclassical style. He served as professor of sculpture at the Florence Academy and influenced a generation of Italian sculptors.
